Mayor Pro Tem Ron Weidmann has been appointed to serve on the National League of Cities’ 2011 Public Safety and Crime Prevention Policy and Advocacy Steering Committee.

The committee is responsible for developing the organization’s policy positions in areas of crime prevention, public safety, homeland security, disaster preparedness, substance abuse, and municipal fire policy.

Weidmann, who represents east Centennial’s District 4 on the city council, said he looks forward to serving on the committee with an eye on Centennial’s best interest.

“I will continue to work closely with [Arapahoe County] Sheriff [Grayson] Robinson to provide direction, guidance, and expert knowledge on this subject,” Weidmann said. “I am proud to represent Centennial on this national committee as one of 45 people seated from each state.”

Weidmann will play a key role in shaping the National League of Cities’ positions, while advocating on behalf of U.S. cities and towns.

The chair of this year’s committee is Erich Von Hackney, a city councilmember in Lumberton, N.C.

The National League of Cities is the nation's oldest and largest organization that serves as a resource and advocate for 19,000 cities and towns across the United States.
