Arapahoe County deputies are investigating a shooting that took place in Centennial Feb. 12.

A teenager was shot outside the Goodson Recreation Center in what’s being considered a drug deal gone bad.

Deputies responded at about 10:45 p.m. to a call from the hospital reporting a gunshot wound, according to the sheriff’s department press release.

The male victim told deputies that he and friends had prearranged to deliver drugs to someone at the South Suburban recreation center at 6315 S. University Blvd.

When they got out of their car they were confronted by two males with bandanas covering their faces, the press release stated.

One of the males pointed a handgun at the victim, demanded drugs and money, and then shot him.

The suspects fled the area on foot, while the victim’s friend drove him to the hospital. The injuries are not life-threatening.

The Arapahoe Rescue Patrol was activated to search the area for physical evidence where they found a handgun in the front yard of a house on South University.

The investigation is ongoing.
