Canyon Courier Milestones for Sept. 22

James and Marion (Hanna) Dries, Evergreen residents for 30 years before recently moving to Colorado Springs, are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary. They were married on Sept. 23, 1961. Their children, Garrick, Melanie, James Jr., Jeffrey and Meredith, are blessed by their parents’ love and faithfulness all these years.

Evergreen resident Michelle Porter, 57, graduated in August with a master’s of nursing degree from Cedarville University in Ohio and is now a licensed nurse practitioner. Porter began nursing courses in 2008 at age 44 after raising eight children. She earned her bachelor’s of nursing at Colorado Christian University in 2014. She lives on Floyd Hill with her husband, Dave.

Josephine Nichols of Evergreen has been awarded a Coast Guard Foundation scholarship. She is the daughter of Gerald Nichols, retired Coast Guard veteran, and is attending West Texas A&M University this fall. The scholarship is awarded to children of those who have served in the Coast Guard, whether active or retired.

Matthew Aceto of Evergreen graduated in May from Drake University in Des Moines with a bachelor of science degree in chemistry.

Joshua Schmitz and Lucca Shields, both of Evergreen, were named to the dean’s list for the spring 2021 semester at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington. Students on the dean’s list must earn a GPA between 3.5 to 3.84.

Jen Middleton of Evergreen graduated from Colorado College in Colorado Springs with a bachelor of arts degree in film and media studies.

Lucas Jones of Evergreen has made the dean’s list at Monmouth College in Monmouth, Illinois, for the spring semester. To qualify for the dean’s list, students must have a GPA of 3.5 or better. Jones is the son of Christopher K. and Tracy J. Jones of Evergreen.

Jackson Browning and Eliza Tilson, both of Evergreen, were named to the dean’s list at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, for the spring 2021 semester. Students on the dean’s list must have earned a 3.6 or better quality point average.

Brenna Milligan of Morrison has been named to DePauw University’s spring 2021 dean’s list, which recognizes students who achieve a semester GPA of 3.5 or higher.

The following students graduated in May from the University of Wyoming: Brittany Huey of Bailey, Amanda Cyphers and Stefan Dominic Emmons of Evergreen, and Erin Buckles of Morrison.
