Littleton soccer proved it is not to be taken lightly after posting a 3-1 win over crosstown rival Heritage.

After searching for their first win inside the Continental League, the Lions struggled to find the back of the net and were held to two goals in their first five league games. Against Heritage, however, senior Kevin Fennelly assisted two goals in the first half. One was to senior Nick Bates and the other to junior Max Segal.

The Lions Jesus Vilcas, a senior, scored their third goal in the second half. Heritage’s Isaac Witte, a junior, answered back for the Eagles, but the rest couldn’t close the gap in the score. Eagles goalkeepers Tim Erwin and Craig Debow had six saves between them.

With the win, Littleton’s league record went to 1-4-1, including a 1-1 tie against Regis, and a 3-5-2 overall record. Prior to beating Heritage, the Lions took a 1-0 loss at the hands of Mountain Vista and a 1-0 loss from Chaparral.

For Heritage, the Lions were the team’s first league loss after a four-game win streak, including Ponderosa, Legend, Castle View and Rock Canyon.

Against the Jaguars in a 3-0 shut out, the Eagles’ Christian Vargas, a junior, scored two goals. Tanner Swenson scored one and assisted one. Erwin had five saves between the pipes.

Prior to that, in Heritage’s 4-1 over Castle View, Swenson, John Bruno, Jake Peterson and Tommy Reeves each had one goal. Jeff Whitney assisted two goals. Erwin and Debow had seven saves between them.

After the Littleton game, Heritage moved to a 7-2-1 overall record.
