Vote yes on 7A
As a member of the South Suburban Board of Directors, I encourage you to vote yes on 7A.
In addition to maintaining the parks, trails and facilities for our 155,000 residents in three counties and six cities, South Suburban is making good on its promise to provide needed services throughout the area.
Here’s the problem and why a yes vote on 7A is vitally important… In the past five years, South Suburban has seen revenue losses of nearly $1.8 million due to the Gallagher Amendment, which is limiting the property tax revenues we receive. These are property taxes you, our residents, have already approved.
Voting yes on 7A does not give South Suburban unrestricted ability to increase taxes. The measure is merely asking voters to allow SSPR to maintain revenues at current levels so that we can keep our promise to provide the needed services you have asked for.
I’m also proud to tell you that just last month, South Suburban earned “national accreditation” from the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA) now ranking SSPR among the top 2% of park and recreation agencies across the entire country.
Please continue to support South Suburban Parks and Recreation this November with a yes vote on 7A. The preservation of parks, trails, open space and active opportunities are vital to our community and to our kids.
