Communication with residents is crucial

As mayor of the City of Centennial, I would like to express the importance of openness and transparency between city council, city staff and our residents.

I feel city council and city staff have a responsibility to our residents to share information about the latest projects, programs, events, etc. happening in the City of Centennial. Many communications are already in place — the city’s Web site, our mailed Centennial Connection Newsletter, district meetings and e-mail notifications.

For special projects, the city has taken and will continue to take special measures to inform, educate, and seek input from our residents. One such project is the I-25/Arapahoe Road Interchange Environmental Assessment, which will start shortly.

Over the past two years, Arapahoe County, Greenwood Village, and Centennial have been working together with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) on a System Feasibility Study of this important interchange.

As the southeast metro area continues to grow, it is critical that congestion at the Arapahoe Road/I-25 interchange be relieved. Improvements to this vital interchange will dramatically improve mobility and economic vitality in the southeast Denver region. Public involvement and transparency is a must for this project to be a success and the project scope of work focuses on just that.

The Environmental Assessment requires that a public information process be developed in accordance with the CDOT and FHWA. Due to the federal funding involved for this project, the public information process is mandatory and is equally something the Centennial City Council embraces. We want our citizens to be informed and we want to hear their feedback. The voices of the citizens and businesses of Centennial during this process are critical to ensuring the community needs are met.

Residents should keep an eye out for numerous public meetings, mailed and e-mailed notifications and a project specific Web site to learn more about this project. If you would like to receive notifications directly from the Environmental Assessment Project Managers email LLangerman@deainc.com.

As Centennial’s representative on the Arapahoe Road/I-25 Interchange Coalition, I look forward to hearing your thoughts and can be reached at cnoon@centennialcolorado.com.
