Getting in the spirit of the season at St. Nicks

Yuletide die-hards find 'magic' at Littleton's Christmas superstore

It's hard to be a “Bah, humbug” type at St. Nicks Christmas and Collectibles.

The sprawling store at 5221 S. Santa Fe Drive, topped by a statue of Santa Claus, is perhaps the sole remaining Christmas emporium in the Denver metro area.

Though die-hards peruse the room after room of decorations even through the summer, November and December are “go time,” said Nicole Sealy, one of St. Nicks' managers.

“We've got families who come back year after year,” Sealy said. “We've been here for 43 years, so some of them brought their kids, and now they're bringing their grandkids. Just stepping through the door brings that childhood joy of Christmas morning rushing back.”

St. Nicks is home to a few Christmas crafts that have otherwise fallen by the wayside, Sealy said, like hand-decorated ornaments, hand-tied bows and live garlands and wreaths.

For Vicki Larock-Lieb, who was shopping for Christmas trees with her grandsons, no place else compares.

“I love the quality and the staff, but it's more than that,” Larock-Lieb said. “You can't even put your finger on it. It's just a magical place.”
