ENGLEWOOD, Colo. – The South Platte Water Renewal Partners (SPWRP) is calling on nature lovers to join the People of the Platte Earth Day River/Trail Clean-up Project on Saturday, April 27 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Centennial Park in Englewood.
SPWRP needs volunteers to glean trails and river areas for materials that threaten wildlife and environmental health such as plastic bags, glass bottles and other non-biodegradable materials while also discovering the natural beauty in their backyard.
Volunteers can choose one of eight teams lead by Anglers All, Reynold’s Landing, Pedal Bike Shop and SPWRP. The SPWRP team will be improving the trail and South Platte River section at Centennial Park at South Federal Ave. and Decatur Street in Englewood.
The event is open to anyone ages nine and older. Volunteers will receive breakfast, snacks, discount coupons to local businesses and a free drink at Breckenridge Brewery Farmhouse, who sponsored the event, after the clean-up.
“Our environment is everyone’s responsibility,” said SPWRP Public Education Specialist Deb Parker, who coordinated the event. “This project is proof that we are stronger together.”
“We are especially grateful for organizations such as Breckenridge Brewery, Anglers All, Reynold’s Landing, Pedal Bike Shop, the Englewood Parks and Rec Center, Barr Milton Watershed, Keep Englewood Beautiful, City of Littleton, and of course our citizen volunteers.”
In 2018, SPWRP gathered 99 volunteers who collected 52 bags of trash, 30 bags of recyclables and large items including scrap metal and grocery carts. This year it plans to surpass this goal with the help of the greater community.
