With much competition brewing between Cherry Creek, Regis and
Highlands Ranch this season, it was the Bruins who finished in
second place at the Class 5A high school boys swimming state
championship meet.
Creek took second with a score of 341.5, behind 2010 title
winners Ranch and ahead of third-place Regis, whom Creek defeated
head-to-head earlier this season.
The state waters were May 22 at the EPIC Center in Fort Collins.
Centennial League competitor Arapahoe finished in 11th place as a
team, while the Continental League’s Heritage was sixth and
Littleton 20th.
Cherry Creek
The Bruins’ Spencer Fronk won the 100-yard freestyle gold medal
with a time of 45.26 seconds. He was also the champion of the 200
free with 1 minute, 38.32 seconds on the clock.
Jared Markum took first in the 200 individual medley with
1:48.87 and took gold in the 100 backstroke in 49.30.
Creek’s 200 free relay team won the gold medal with 1:25.51 on
the board. In the 400 free relay, the Bruins’ entry also won the
event’s championship title with 3:10.51.
Daryl Turner was second in the 50-yard freestyle. The team’s 200
medley relay was also second in its event.
Heritage
The Eagles’ Tanner Nemkov won the 1-meter diving event’s gold
medal with a score of 428.10.
The Eagles’ 200-yard freestyle relay team placed sixth in their
event. Heritage also took sixth in the 200 medley relay.
Rhys Brennan finished sixth in the 100 butterfly.
Arapahoe
In the 400-yard freestyle relay, the Warriors’ foursome finished
in seventh place.
Littleton
The Lions’ Brodie Pugh finished in third place in the 1-meter
diving finals with a score of 382.
