County to have ‘Passport Day’

Posted

Arapahoe County, March 28, will celebrate “Passport Day in the USA,” a national outreach event to inform the public about the upcoming changes to U.S. travel document requirements, provide passport information and accept passport applications from U.S. citizens from coast-to-coast and border-to-border.

On June 1, U.S. citizens must present a passport book, passport card or other travel documents approved by the U.S. government to enter the United States from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda at land borders and seaports of entry.

On that day only, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Arapahoe County Clerk and Recorder’s office, 5334 S. Prince St., appointments and expedite fees are not required for those applying at a Passport Agency. Applicants can expect to receive their passport in approximately four weeks for routine service and about two to three weeks for expedited service.

U.S. citizens without a valid passport book or passport card are encouraged to apply on this day.

“For all those folks who can’t visit our office during the week, this is a great opportunity to apply for a passport,” said Nancy Doty, Arapahoe County Clerk and Recorder. “Currently, it takes four to six weeks for you to receive your passport after submitting an application.”

Information on the cost and how to apply for a passport book and a passport card is available at www.travel.state.gov. U.S. citizens may also obtain passport information by phone, in English and Spanish, by calling the National Passport Information Center toll-free at 1-877-487-2778. All applicants should bring passport photos with them when applying, because the Clerk and Recorder’s Office does not have the ability to make passport photos.

For more information about passports, and the services offered by the Arapahoe County Clerk and Recorder’s Office, including driver’s license renewal, motor vehicle registration, voter registration, document recording and marriage licenses, visit www.co.arapahoe.co.us or call 303-795-4200.

“For all those folks who can’t visit our office during the week, this is a great opportunity to apply for a passport.”
