Arapahoe County is seeking volunteers to lead summer workshops
in arts and crafts, science and nature, and culinary arts for local
youth as part of the Colorado State University Extension
program.
Volunteers are needed weekdays in June and July at the CSU
Extension building, 5814 Datura St. in Littleton. Times will be
flexible, depending on a volunteer’s availability to lead morning
or afternoon sessions.
Community members with a passion for helping youth, ages 6 to
14, are encouraged to volunteer. Some prior knowledge of arts and
crafts, science, cooking or baking is helpful.
Training, supplies and a curriculum will be provided by the
Extension’s Youth Development and School Enrichment Program.
County Commissioner Jim Dyer of west Centennial says the program
is an opportunity for county residents with some free time to make
a significant contribution.
“Our community's youth gain so much with the help of adult role
models,” he said. “If you have some free time this summer, please
consider volunteering for these weekday workshops to teach kids
fun, memorable skills.”
The low-cost workshops will open for registration in May to
Arapahoe County youth.
Anyone interested in volunteering should contact coordinator Val
Purser at 303-738-7938 or visit co.arapahoe.co.us. Applicants will
be subject to a background check.
