For the second year in a row, the City of Centennial has
received the national Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from
the Government Finance Officers Association.
The industry award was created to acknowledge “outstanding
achievement in budgeting practices and effective budget
presentation from a governmental entity.”
City Manager Jacque Wedding-Scott has credited the award to her
staff’s adherence to a citizen-led city visioning project released
two years ago.
To qualify, a budget must serve as the following:
Policy document
Financial plan
Operations guide
Communications device
A Certificate of Recognition is given to the individual or
department that is primarily responsible for drafting the budget
document.
Centennial’s 2010 certificate has been presented to staff
members in Wedding-Scott’s office and the city’s finance
department.
According to the Government Finance Officers Association, the
award’s recipients “have pioneered efforts to improve the quality
of budgeting and provide an excellent example for other governments
throughout North America.”
The organization is a nonprofit professional association serving
more than 17,600 government finance professionals throughout North
America.
