Hundreds of families are expected to descend upon deKoevend Park
on May 14 for Centennial’s fourth annual Spring Fling.
The free event, which is sponsored by both the City of
Centennial and South Suburban Parks and Recreation, is scheduled to
run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Weather often dictates the turnout, but
in the past the event has drawn as many as 5,000 visitors, City of
Centennial spokesperson Allison Wittern said. It immediately
follows the 30th annual High Line Canal Run and features fun
activities centered on interactivity.
Life-sized board games serve as a perennial Spring Fling
favorite. Individuals can compete in chess, checkers, Chutes and
Ladders and High-Ho-Cherry-O on a massive scale.
Other activities include on-stage entertainment, face painters,
balloon sculptors, a game zone, arts and crafts stations, a play
area, a rock climbing wall, pony rides, Frisbee-catching dogs and
more. A plethora of food vendors will also be on hand.
The High Line Canal Run is a 5-kilometer or 10-kilometer race
along the scenic High Line Canal Trail, beginning and ending in
deKoevend Park. It begins at 8 a.m., and participants receive a
long-sleeve T-shirt, a goody bag and a pancake breakfast.
Registration is $30 for either distance before the event or $35 on
the day of the race, according to South Suburban Parks and
Recreation’s website.
DeKoevend Park is near the Goodson Recreation Center at 6315
South University Boulevard, a half-mile north of Arapahoe Road.
