A car drove through the back of a house in the east Centennial area near East Orchard Road after its driver experienced a medical emergency around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to South Metro Fire Rescue.

Snowy conditions on the roads did not appear to cause the crash, said Connor Christian, a spokeswoman for the agency. The home sits in the 5800 block of South Espana Street in unincorporated Arapahoe County, near where Orchard Road curves into South Himalaya Street.

The homeowner was in the house when the crash occurred but was not injured, Christian said.

When firefighters arrived on scene, the person was trapped inside the car, Christian said. The driver was removed from the car and transported to an area hospital. Christian said she could not provide further details about the person’s condition. No passengers were in the car, she added.

Emergency crews worked to stabilize the home to ensure the hole the car left wouldn’t cause further damage, Christian said. The car was towed away as of about 7:45 p.m.

Crews can use wood beams to hold up a window or a doorway that was pushed through in situations where a car runs into a building, Christian said. A crew was on scene to board up the hole as of about 7:45 p.m., South Metro Fire said in a tweet.

No roads were closed in the area, Christian said.
