Brookens tabbed as CHSAA associate commissioner

The Colorado High School Activities Association named Bethany Brookens as its next associate commissioner.

Incoming Commissioner Mike Krueger made the appointment, which is effective immediately. She replaces Tom Robinson, who died in April.

A press statement called Brookens "a motivated educator with significant experience managing large scale events, promoting statewide activities and cultivating relationships." Brookens has been a CHSAA assistant commissioner since 2008.

“I am so honored to be chosen for this role and I’m extremely excited for this coming year and new team,” Brookens said in the statement. “We have an incredible staff and it’s a privilege to serve our membership in this capacity.”

In her time with CHSAA, Brookens has overseen numerous sports and activities and served on many statewide and national committees, including the Colorado Tennis Association board of directors, the Sportswomen of Colorado board of directors, the NFHS Music Advisory Committee and the NFHS Volleyball Advisory Committee. She is the Title IX and Equity liaison for the CHSAA membership and has a master’s in business administration from the University of Colorado.

"Bethany is an exceptional leader, and her influence will continue to impact our staff and our schools in so many positive ways as she assumes this new role" Krueger said in the statement. "It will be an honor to serve our membership alongside her."

Her administrative responsibilities included boys and girls tennis, boys and girls volleyball and skiing. She also took over as administrator for boys and girls basketball this past school year. The statement said Brookens supervised and led the development and deployment of rSchool, the CHSAA digital platform, which included educational training and outreach.

Brookens is among several people who are assuming new roles at CHSAA for the coming school year. Krueger takes over as commissioner July 1, and John Sullivan is a new assistant commissioner.
