Another rivalry game between Arapahoe and Heritage is in the books, and this one went to the Warriors.

Heritage High School football played host to the start of both teams’ Class 5A Big 6 League schedule against each other Sept. 30 at Littleton Public Schools Stadium. Arapahoe remained undefeated after beating the Eagles 38-14.

Warriors quarterback Alex Gieser threw for 164 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Heritage QB Ryan Novak had 174 passing yards with a touchdown a four interceptions.

Arapahoe’s Jose Cancanon rushed for 89 yards. Ethan Brunhofer had 81 yards receiving yards and caught both of Gieser’s touchdown passes. Marcus Fleming broke into the end zone on a rush. James Hall put a 22-yard field goal through the uprights.

The Eagles’ Michael Schandle finished with 88 from the sky and caught Novak’s touchdown pass. He also had 87 yards returning kickoffs. Andrew Shaffer put a touchdown on the scoreboard also.

This week, Arapahoe has one of its biggest challenges in Bear Creek (4-1), while Heritage moves onto face the equally challenging 5-0 Columbine Rebels.

In its last non-conference game of the season, defending state 4A champion Valor Christian remained undefeated at 5-0 and booked its second shutout of the season with a 52-0 final over Pueblo South. Valor opens its South Metro League schedule this week against Rock Canyon (4-1).
