Arapahoe County’s voter turnout for the 2008 presidential
election was more than 93 percent, and president-elect Barack Obama
received nearly 56 percent of the vote, according to the county
clerk and recorder’s Web site.
“Many of us who supported Obama’s campaign agree with the
president-elect that ‘this victory alone is not the change we seek;
it is only the chance for us to make that change,’” said Bob Kihm,
host to Arapahoe County Team Obama’s first-ever meeting.
Kihm, a Centennial resident, said he has never been very active
in politics, but was an Obama delegate during the Democratic
National Convention in August, and is planning to attend the
inauguration.
The Arapahoe County Team Obama had its meeting to prepare for
the next phase of the Campaign for Change, Dec. 13, with nearly 60
people in attendance.
The meeting was one of more than 4,000 nationwide to build on
the organization and energy of the Obama supporters in Arapahoe
County, west of Interstate 25.
“We intend to build a relationship with all of our Congressional
and state Representatives, regardless of party affiliation, to
solicit their support of Obama’s plans as they are released in the
coming months,” Kihm said. “We’ll continue to have voters from all
parties who support the president’s agenda. In fact, I expect we’ll
see new teammates who, for some reason, didn’t work for the Obama
campaign but who nonetheless support the need for change.”
Arapahoe County Team Obama is a combination of the field support
and campaign teams of volunteers and staff that organized and
mobilized in Arapahoe County for the Obama campaign. It is a
multipartisan organization committed to supporting Obama and
contributing to the community.
